A cozy bedroom with a large bed featuring white and blue patterned bedding, located near a bay window with beige curtains. There is a wooden nightstand with a glass vase holding red flowers, a blue cup, and a tray. The room has a white fireplace with a wooden mantel decorated with a potted plant and a framed picture and a soft multicolored rug on the light wood floor. Natural light fills the room.

A real retreat.

In Seattle’s Sunset Hill neighborhood, this primary bedroom was reimagined to embrace light, views, and a quieter rhythm of living. Overlooking Puget Sound, the space now feels expansive, layered, and deeply personal while remaining traditional yet relaxed in tone.

The existing bedroom did not take full advantage of its setting. The window configuration limited the impact of the water views and the finishes felt disconnected from the character of the home. Our goal was to create a light filled retreat that honored the architecture, introduced warmth, and framed the Puget Sound views as the true focal point.

A living room scene featuring a wooden table with a gold tray holding a white teapot and a cup of tea. Next to the teapot, on the table, is a potted green plant in a clear glass vase. Part of a white upholstered armchair and a patterned rug are also visible.

A new window configuration transformed the room. By opening and refining the layout, we allowed natural light to flood the space and created a direct visual connection to the water. The room now feels airy and calm, with shifting daylight that animates the finishes throughout the day.

New flooring in a warm wood tone grounds the room and softens the light. In Seattle interior design, balancing cool natural light with warm finishes is essential. The wood introduces depth and texture while maintaining a timeless foundation for future updates.

Two comfortable chairs were added near the windows to create a morning coffee moment. This seating area turns the bedroom into more than a place to sleep. It becomes a daily ritual space for taking in the Sound, often through a pair of restored antique binoculars that the homeowner carefully brought back to life.

Bedroom with a made bed, white bedding, and decorative pillows. There are lamps on bedside tables, a framed picture on the wall, a telescope near the window, and a door with a black grid design.

A redesigned fireplace anchors the space and adds architectural presence. Rather than competing with the views, the new fireplace complements them, offering a secondary focal point for evenings and colder months. The result is a bedroom that feels equally inviting at sunrise and after dark.

Furnishings and details were selected to create a traditional yet casual atmosphere. Tailored nightstands add structure, while vintage art and collected objects bring soul.

This Sunset Hill bedroom remodel demonstrates how thoughtful architectural updates, warm materials, and layered furnishings can transform a dated space into a refined retreat. By focusing on window design, fireplace renovation, flooring selection, and curated details, we established a strong foundation that will evolve beautifully over time.
